Just like every year, I do my very own review of the Eurovision Songcontest, which was held in Baku, Azerbaijan, this year.

Also, I did something very special this year. I went to a public viewing of the show. I had some friends visiting from Finland and we all went to that Eurovision party together which was hosted by a lovely and pretty funny drag queen. I took notes during the show and as I just found them again, I decided to finally share my (belated) opinions of the performances(click on the name of country to open the songs on YouTube).

Let’s get the party/euphoria started 😉

01. England: Last year, Blue represented England. This year they sent their grandfather. It was kinda like Tom Jones meets Johnny Cash. In a bad way.

02. Hungary: The song was called “Sound of Our Hearts”. My heart burped during this performance.

03. Albania: Kinda reminded me of MirandaSings and the evil Queen of Snow White 😉 Thank God there were no fancy glasses on our table. She would have shattered them with her voice!

04. Lithuania: I surprisingly liked the song after he took off his bling-bling scarf.

05. Bosnia Herzogovina: I was desperately waiting for a “Lady Gaga moment” to happen. I am still waiting.

06. Russia: Awesomeness! Those grandmas were sooo cute! I was hoping they all took their medications! One of my faves of the night!

07. Iceland: Nightwish gone Iceland and blonde.

08. Cyprus: ♫♪♫ Lalalalala ♫♪♫ That’s also a good to work out to.

09. France: 10 points for the topless dancer. 3 points for the singer.

10. Italy: This is what Amy WInehouse would have looked like when she used a comb and Posh Spice was her best friend.

11. Estonia: Reminded me of the last song they always play to get rid of the last people in the club.

12. Norway: Adam Lambert meets Abercrombie & Fitch model.

13. Azerbaijan: Very nice voice and I loved the dress and all of the effects.

14. Romania: The moonwalking bagpipe player is awesome!

15. Denmark: Avril Lavigne meets Sheryl Crow. This is a good song to listen to when you are road-tripping.

16. Greece: Apparently, this wannabe Shakira was in a hurry and forgot to put on a skirt, huh?

17. Sweden: Another one of my faves! I expected some awesome dance moves but they only sent a ninja up on stage.

18. Turkey: Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum. The dancers in the background looked like bats trying to fly.

19. Spain: She can sing but that does not change the fact that I yawned like 7 times during this song. True story.

20. Germany: I loved it! We were literally dancing on the tables and cheering! Besides, I think the guy is cute(ish)

21. Malta: This song puts me in a good mood. We were still dancing on tables from the song before.

22. F.Y.R. Macedonia: Well…That is all. The only thing that excited me was the electric violin in the back.

23. Ireland: Jedward, here we go again. I think last year’s drugs were still working 😉 Last year’s song was better as well.

24. Serbia: ZzzzZzzz…This is when I ordered more wine.

25. Ukraine: The outfit of the dancers distracted me from the actual song. Not in a good way.

26. Moldova: This song makes me wanna dance….a very stupid dance though.

I am glad that one of my top three won this year’s contest: Sweden!! I really like the song and I am happy that next year’s Eurovision will be in Stockholm, Sweden! Let’s see, maybe I’ll even report live from the arena next time 😉

…I have my life back. At least for a few weeks.

I admit it.I might have worked a bit too much during the last few months considering the fact that my studies should be my first priority. Oh well, I guess money does rule the world. But besides working and studying I’ve managed to have a little fun as well.

We’ve also gone on a few trips. We went to check out Kassel, the hometown of one of my friends, during Christmas time. We had so much fun even though it was freezing cold and very slippery especially on the mountain. But there is nothing hot wine can’t fix 😉

I also became an aunt. My nephew and little prince Matti was born 10 days before Christmas. I was so happy when I finally could drive up north to see my family and Matti for Christmas.

the little prince

I could have cuddled this smelly angel forever but duty called and I had to leave and go back to Gießen shortly after the new year had started. In January I started a second job. Not the smartest idea considering the fact that the exams and final presentations were coming closer. But hey, money!

Frankfurt

My other job is in Frankfurt so I have to use the trains to get there. And while doing that I also found out that the warning “mind the gap between platform and train” makes perfect sense and should be taken seriously. To my defense I have to say that it was very slippery (and I was in a hurry) so I slipped right into the gap with my entire right leg. I do not recommend that. It is scary and very hurtful. And time-consuming. And I am certainly not one of those people who have lotsa spare time to see doctors. Thankfully the train did not move until I was out of there but I smashed my leg and was not allowed to stress and use it so I could not work any of my jobs: bye bye money. And thanks to the pain: bye bye sleep.

I needed surgery but luckily my puppy eyes worked and I could convince the doctors to wait until after my exams. The pain faded a bit and I could attend the “it’s all over” party. Unfortunately I could not drink alcohol but I still had a good time.

Oh yeah, in between all of the above I also had to move apartments as my contract ended. But the painting and building the furniture had to wait until after the exams.

I finished everything just in time for my long-awaited surgery. I admit I was freaked out, scared and horrified and could not sleep for days. Doctors, needles and hospitals are not really my cup of tea. But the “chill pill” I had to take right before my surgery made the world pretty awesome and sparkly again and I was a bit more relaxed until they totally drugged me with the anesthesia.

time for surgery

First thing I did after I woke up again was to check if they took the right leg. They did but they bandadged the entire leg so the only thing I could see was a disgusting blood-filled tube coming out of my leg. And this is when I fell asleep again. Don’t remember the other stuff that happened that day. Except for the burning injection. Even though I have already been getting those for over a month now it still hurts and stings like a bitch.

Some of my friends came to visit me in hospital the next day. It felt so good to see someone I knew especially since my family could not be there. My friends got me a cute care package which made my eyes all teary. But after a few hours of happiness it was time for boredom, nurses and injections again.

I love my friends

Luckily, I only had to stay in hospital for a few days. Now I’m at home trying to relax and enjoying some time off-work. And next week I’m off to see my family and friends up north for a few days. Life is good…until it’s time for that stupid injection again.

Got the first major snow in Helsinki last week. I was kinda shocked when I woke up to a white Helsinki one morning. Wasn’t sure if I should laugh or cry…the last winter was so harsh and now it’s back already*boohooo*! But then, when I looked out of my kitchen window on Sunday I forgot all about the frequently wet feet, frozen limbs, frozen eyelashes and frozen hair…meeehh let’s be honest…that is so last season 😉

Even though it is flippin’ cold, I do have to admit that I kinda like this weather…nature looks sooo pretty!!

The snow combined with all of the pretty and sparkly Christmas decorations in the city center is just sooo beautiful*bling bling*. I don’t have a picture from the outdoor decorations but only from indoors (it’s a bit more tempting to shop in a warm mall then in a snowstorm outside lol) but I’ll make sure to take a few pictures of the beautifully decorated Helsinki. I love this city! (the city, not the language…never mix up those two things!)

Also, I might have some good news for you at the end of this week…so stay tuned and wish me luck 😉

And because I’m in the spirit of things…

always loved that one!

Bling-a-ling!

I just tried to shower for the first time after the surgery. I had to wrap a garbage bag around my foot to protect the wound. The view kinda reminded me of a horror movie….just add some blood and there you go 😉

I might have done something wrong during the construction of my “don’t-get-wet-suit” (suit up!) because the foot still got a bit wet…even though it felt like I cut off the blood circulation in my foot.

I got my swine flu vaccination today so now my arm hurts like hell and I cant really move it a lot. So limping and not being able to use the left arm officially makes me a cripple now. I wish I could see myself moving around…must look hilarious.

Today was the big day: surgery! I was so scared and nervous that I could hardly sleep last night. When I stepped into the surgery room I felt so weird and kind of helpless. Everything in there scared me. I don’t like surgeries. I haven’t had many in my life yet(thank god!) and the only one I can remember 100% was a tooth surgery…a very bad one…actually 2 very bad ones. Geez, I do have a hard life 😉

Ok, let’s get back on track now:

So I was in the room and was told to lay down but then I saw 2 (huge) syringes. And I was asking the nurse if they would use those evil needles on me…and she said yes!!! I was so shocked. Then the nurse left the room and I seriously had tears in my eyes. I HATE needles! I started to feel dizzy and finally laid down on the operating table because I felt like passing out. Fortunately I didn’t….or maybe unfortunately!

Then the doctor came and started some small talk. I don’t even remember what she said I was so busy not to start crying and panicking. And then I saw her reaching out for one of those syringes.

And she seriously put those two gigantic things into Jule’s teeny tiny little foot with a SMILE!!. It hurt  and burnt LIKE HELL. And then those 2 evil persons started talking about scalpels and sawbs*faint alert!!*…I don’t remember how long my trip to hell lasted but I was surely glad when it was over!

I had to stay at the doctor’s for a while after the surgery and they gave me painkillers.(probably the nicest thing they’ve done to me today!).

I felt a bit weird when I left the doctor’s (the meds might have started working) but I had to pull it together as I still had to drive back home again. But that was easier said than done. (We’ve had quite some snow chaos and storms here during the last few days and it is not easy to get around especially in a car. But I had to use it today to get to my lovely appointment in hell)

Anyways, on the way back I got stuck in the snow. Of course it had to happen to me TODAY! It was not easy to drive with the pain in my foot and then I had to use my feet to get the fricking snow out of the way. My joy was priceless!

Thank God I parked next to the train station and there was some worker from the “Deutsche Bahn”(German Railways) coming my way after 10 minutes of hard work. He helped me out of there and I was good to go again after another 10 minutes.

I was glad when I was home and could relax…and go to sleep because the meds made me very tired. For this reason…must.go.to.sleep.now.zzzzzzzz
